The Secret of Successful People

What is success to you? A great contribution to others? Making a lot of money? Having peace of mind? Being happy? Being fit in mind and body? To be alive after a major operation? What is the secret ingredient that allows some to be more successful than others?

The secret is what pictures we hold in our head. We think in pictures. Think of the place you live, your car, an upcoming vacation. We even dream in pictures. The pictures in our heads always create the actions of our lives. We always act out the pictures in our head. These pictures are stronger when they are crystal clear and repeatedly impressed upon the mind.

Doctors think about being doctors before they are doctors. They daydream and visualize themselves as doctors throughout their education and before. They dress like doctors to act the part. It’s the same with lawyers, mechanics, chefs, teachers, nurses, entertainers, sports superstars, non-smokers, people who have lost weight and others.

Lady Gaga, as a little girl, repeatedly imagined herself performing at the Super Bowl. She mastered her craft and eventually performed at the Super Bowl. Jim Carrey carried a check made out to himself for 10 million, mastered his craft, and eventually received many real checks for millions.

I always imagined myself as a hypnotist from about age 12 or 13. Now, at 69, I have been a hypnotist for many years. I just wanted to help people. I attended the University of Manitoba taking many psychology courses for 4 years, graduated with a BA (Honours) degree, attended many courses and workshops about hypnosis, as well as read as many books about hypnosis as possible. I continually visualized myself as a hypnotist during self-hypnosis and before sleep.

The picture we hold in our head is the greatest miracle. We can only act out the pictures in our head. We dress like the people we grow up with. We act the part of others in the country we grow up. We generally adopt the language, the religion, the customs, the clothing and the beliefs of the people with whom we grow up.

You are an actor in life, acting out the pictures in your head. If a child is constantly belittled, yelled at, screamed at, and called “stupid” they can easily grow up feeling inferior. He’s hypnotized by repetition. It must be true if his parents say it and other kids say it. Yet, we all have our own talents.

If you constantly tell yourself during the day and before sleep, over and over : “I can’t stop smoking” or “I can’t lose weight”, you are programming your subconscious mind to achieve that goal or image of yourself. You need to be unhypnotized, dehypnotized.

What pictures do you have in your head? That will determine how successful you will become. You are chained to the pictures in your head. You will act out the pictures in your head the rest of your life.

Close your eyes. Remember, picture, imagine seeing and hearing your favorite music or musician on stage. Now place yourself on a warm sandy beach walking with bare feet, watching and listening to ocean waves. Now a police car speeding down the highway. Now, eating your favorite fruit or food. See it; smell it; taste it; hear yourself eating it. Picture me, however you imagine I look, and then open your eyes. What you did was magic. You didn’t go anywhere, but all the above were in your head. The greatest miracle on earth is your ability to change your mind, to put any picture you want in your head.

You can be a master hypnotist. You are the writer and the director of your life and you can program anything you desire. You can use this incredible miracle to be anything you want to be. You are born with an energy that wants to make you magnificent. You need a goal; commit it to writing. Create a new image of who you want to be and what you desire.

Earl Nightingale said we become what we think the most about. Zig Ziglar always said we need a check up from the neck up if we have stinking thinking. Joe Girard says if you associate with negative people, it will be like standing next to a garbage can and you will stink. Be selective with whom you spend your time. Make sure they are supportive, not draining.

Successful people work hard. Edison, the inventor, said genius is 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration. You never fail, you just find out what does not work. You make mistakes, learn from them and do better. You need to have a plan. Fail to plan, you plan to fail.

This is the greatest secret to become successful. The subconscious mind makes us act automatically to eat, to drive a car, to ride a bicycle, to recite the alphabet and numbers, to play a piano and thousands of other actions. At first, we do things slowly and consciously. Then they become automatic, subconscious. Our subconscious mind does not know difference between what we imagine and what is real. The subconscious just reacts to our pictures, and what we program into it, positive or negative.

Imagine a juicy, sour, bitter lemon. It’s a hot day in the desert and your throat is very dry. Imagine squeezing lemon juice into your mouth. Did you salivate?  Your body reacts to pictures in your head. How are we going to use this information? Repeatedly imagine yourself as successful.  Who do you think you are? A winner? A loser? First thing in the morning and at night before sleep, project into your mind clear images of success. Act like the success is true now. Visualize it, affirm it and keep repeating it. The subconscious does not know difference reality and imagination. That is why dreams can seem so real. What affects the body affects the mind. What affects the mind affects the body.

When you are hypnotized, you have total access to the subconscious mind. Mental imagery becomes more real. Repeatedly impress clear images of yourself as already successful. People losing weight imagine themselves already slim; smokers imagine themselves as non-smokers. When you are hypnotized by someone else, you can go even deeper into the experience than you can by yourself.

Tell your kids they are doing well, encourage them. Muhammed Ali always affirmed: “I am the greatest”. How many people say I am the greatest? The system works. To be a master hypnotist, you need a goal, a picture and you follow through with your plan. Persistence is the key to success.

Always love yourself as the special and unique person you are because you will always be with yourself. Live in the present, not the rear view mirror of the past. Get your spirit, your energy, your life and your power back. Where are you going in your life now?
