Today’s newsletter is about mind-body health, managing anxiety and shedding pounds permanently:
Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in North America and affect approximately 45 million adults. About 15 years ago, a study found that 23% of women in their 40s and 50s take antidepressants. This is a higher percentage than any other age group. Women were also found to be 2 1/2 times more likely to be taking antidepressants than men. Coronavirus has made it even worse, with anti-anxiety drugs usage jumping 34.1%. Symptoms may include excessive worrying, fatigue, inability to focus and concentrate, irritability, and many more. Here is some help:
Journal Record: Keep a record of the date you have anxiety, how you feel and what triggered it. Notice causes, a pattern and avoid the anxiety sources or manage the feelings with some action steps:
- Deep breathing: Take 10-15 long, slow, deep breaths, breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth. Hold breaths for a few seconds.
- Hypnosis, self-hypnosis, or meditation.
- Visual Imagery Mind Programming: In bed, ready to fall asleep, use your imagination to create movies in your mind where you are totally relaxed in the situations that used to create anxiety.
- Time Management to feel in control: Organize your tasks with calendar planners and to do lists, focusing upon one task at a time.
- Daily Exercise, Yoga, or Stretching.
- Eat and Drink with health in mind: Limit sugar products, white flour products, processed foods, junk food and caffeine. Drink lots of water. Avoid alcohol or drug use as this can cause or worsen anxiety.
- Stay Social: Be in touch with friends and relatives who lift your spirits, even if only by phone or online. Engage in activities that make you feel happy.
- Get help early. Anxiety, like many other mental health conditions, can be harder to treat if left untreated. A helpful related hypnosis recording I have available is Power Over Anxiety and Panic but be sure to discuss any anxiety issues with your physician.

- You will slow down your pace of eating, eat less, yet enjoy food even more, while losing weight.

- You will be satisfied and positive about your body image.
- You will be more relaxed and stress-proof.
- You will be motivated to do regular exercise that is safe for your body and physical condition.
- With your new healthy lifestyle, you will experience more personal satisfaction. Your clothing will look, fit, and feel better as you enjoy your greatest wealth, health.
