In the 50 plus years that I have helped people to stop smoking, the most common reasons someone goes back to the habit have always been stress, alcohol or cockiness.
Stress
Mainly someone left me; someone died in the family or financial stresses. Others come to mind, but those are the main 3 stressors. If someone leaves you, why would you want to be with someone who does not want to be with you? With alcohol, someone is intoxicated and they start smoking without really realizing that they will be hooked again on the habit. “My friends and I were on a holiday, drinking at the bar. They started smoking and I picked one up too.” With cockiness, the story usually goes like this: “I felt I was free from smoking, so I thought I would just have one, you know, just to see what it tastes like.” In each case, the person says, “Why did I ever take that one smoke?” For most, all it takes is one to get hooked again. You either stop 100% or keep smoking.
Financial stress
Often people have financial stress because they smoke, and that is why they are broke. The average one pack a day smoker spends about $4000 a year on tobacco, e-cigars, money that he has earned and already paid tax on. Many are suffering financial stress because they spend money foolishly. I’ve had people tell me that when they were young, they amassed large debts this way, and cannot today qualify for a bank loan. Sam Walton, who started Wal-Mart used to drive a rusty half ton truck. Liberace said it is not how much you earn, but how much you save. My Polish grandfather said: “This dollar does not care which pocket it is in.” My Italian grandfather said: “Easy to buy, hard to sell.”
Most people who “keep up with the Jones”, constantly buying the latest gimmicks that the merchandisers push on us will forever have financial stress. Years ago, I heard about a company paying many of the employees over $80,000 a year. Everyone always complained they were broke. Yet, their evenings were spent in the bar buying expensive drinks.
Half the world makes about $2.00 a day. We were born with a lucky ticket in this country. We should focus more upon what we have, than what we do not have. We should focus more on what we can do to overcome challenges, not upon what we cannot do.

I have heard people tell me that they stopped using cocaine, stopped biting nails, slept better, have more energy, lost weight, started a new business, love themselves more and love life more, and on and on. They tell me that they suggest positive instructions/directions/commands to their own subconscious mind, while their attention is powerfully focused upon my voice, during hypnosis. In hypnosis, your body may feel asleep, but your mind is super aware, super conscious.
