About Romane:

Romane first became interested in helping people to stop smoking in 1964, the year that his father had part of his lip surgically removed due to pre-cancer from cigarette smoking. Romane is a certified Master Hypnotherapist and a graduate of The University of Manitoba, honoring in Psychology with a B.A.(Honors) degree. To complete his degree, he conducted a group stop smoking hypnosis seminar followed by a research paper on the project. In 1971, he worked as a psychological technician at The Psychiatric Institute in Winnipeg teaching stress reduction to patients and conducting psychological testing. He is a member of the National Guild of Hypnotherapists and has been a presenter at the National Guild of Hypnotherapists Convention. He is the author of two best-selling books: The Wellness Journey (A complete self-hypnosis training manual) and Fit and Firm Forever (How to lose weight with the power of your mind). He has written articles that have been published in Hypnosis Journals. Romane has invested thousands of hours and thousands of dollars researching over 1000 stop smoking programs. He also surveys many of his own clients to find out what really works. Romane is now semi-retired, but his love of helping people continues to bring him to many cities and smaller communities.

During my 2 ½ hour seminar, I deeply relax the audience through mass hypnosis, locking their concentration upon my voice. People often ask: “What if I can’t be hypnotized?” I believe that I can train most anyone to be hypnotized if they want to be hypnotized and if they follow my simple instructions.

Once hypnotized, life changing instructions s are then impressed upon their subconscious mind. These hypnotic instructions include locking a very detailed and clear image of the new trim body into the subconscious mind as already slim; feeling full and satisfied with healthy, small portions; a dislike for greasy and sweet foods; chewing food slowly; water as a favorite beverage and directing the subconscious mind to develop an enthusiastic desire for daily, safe, healthy exercise. This is just a thumbnail sample of the many hypnotic instructions given to everyone while their mind is powerfully focused upon my voice.

Hypnosis works through the imagination. When people are hypnotized, mental images and positive instructions which have a strong influence upon behavior are given to the subconscious mind. Hypnosis does not rely upon will power. When people follow hypnotic instructions, the new ways of thinking and their new behaviors are automatic, feeling quite natural to the person. The hypnotic instructions are followed in the waking state after the hypnosis has ended. These are called post-hypnotic suggestions or post hypnotic instructions.

If you want to gain a slimmer and healthier body with the help of your subconscious mind, hypnosis is likely going to be a tremendous tool for you. You can be hypnotized by a hypnotist (hetero-hypnosis), but you can also learn self-hypnosis. Repeat hypnosis yields stronger life changes and results. So, hypnosis may be repeated or reinforced by having several live hypnosis sessions, working with hypnosis recordings, and/or learning how to hypnotize yourself with self-hypnosis.

Hypnosis is a normal, natural experience somewhat like daydreaming, but your mind is highly focused on the voice of the hypnotist. As you internalize the hypnotist’s words, and his purposeful inflections of his voice, your imagination and your emotions come into play. Accessing the subconscious mind is important since the conscious mind may be unable to change the behavior. As the subconscious does not distinguish between reality and imagination, the imagined successes programmed into the subconscious mind have a profound impact. Great confidence is felt by the hypnotized person, new positive thinking releases healthy chemicals and hormones in the body that propel him or her to success.

Last weekend was a fantastic visit to Calgary and Edmonton with my stop smoking and weight loss hypnosis seminars. It was a lot of fun for both the audiences and me.  It really is possible to lose weight and stop smoking while having fun! At the seminar intermissions and at the end of the seminars, many people came forward to tell me of their amazing successes, thanking me, shaking my hand and asking me to give them a big hug. Here are three of the many interesting stories they shared:

One lovely lady came on stage and encouraged everyone to lose weight like she did. She said: “I’m a huge fan of Romane. I went from 210 pounds to size 8 and running half marathons.”

Another man (who was a smoker) told me how he went for surgery, but while under anesthetic, the surgeon cupped his head in his hands and told him he would no longer smoke. It worked great for a couple of years, but he came to my seminar to stop smoking permanently. (Most physicians do not know that the mind is VERY SUGGESTIBLE while going under the influence of an anesthetic, but today more of them are at last learning about the power of the mind to heal).

Another lady told me of her challenge to stop smoking and as a last resort thought she should perhaps try a hypnotist, but she wondered who to see. At that moment, a radio announcer mentioned my upcoming seminar. This reminds me of an old saying: “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear!”

Health is your most important asset, more important than anything else in your life. Without health, it is difficult if not impossible to do anything else. Do not let anything distract you from taking action to better health. It never fails to surprise me when someone says I can’t attend your seminar (even though it may save their life) because of some event, often entertainment. They will likely have a lot longer and better quality life to attend many more events if my seminar is first on their calendar. If there is no seminar close by, you should use the recordings. For most people, the recordings are very effective without the live seminar Please tell all your friends that they can activate life changes with the recordings alone. Sometimes people fly long distances to attend my live seminars. They are smart because they realize that their life depends upon being there, or to use the recordings.

What if I can’t be hypnotized? I doubt it. Unlike most hypnotists, I take a lot of time to train people HOW to be hypnotized with many fun and interesting mind exercises involving concentration and visualization. What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis, also known as hypnotherapy, is a trance or dream-like state of deep relaxation to change unhealthy thoughts, feelings and behavior to healthy thoughts, feelings and behavior, guided by the voice of the hypnotist.

Hypnosis is a part of our everyday lives, similar to daydreaming, being absorbed in a fascinating book or an enjoyable movie, and forgetting about everything around you. Hypnosis is also related to the twilight state while falling asleep at night, when you feel half awake and half asleep.

A hypnotized person is relaxed, intensely focused on the voice of the hypnotist, and follows healthy instructions which give greater self-control. Thoughts, feelings, behavior and even chemicals manufactured by the body can be influenced by the hypnotist.

Who can be hypnotized?

Some people have a natural talent to be hypnotized rapidly. Their depth of hypnosis may be anywhere from light to deep hypnosis. Only light hypnosis is needed for weight loss or stopping smoking, but deeper hypnosis is needed for surgery. Recently, a man had brain surgery with hypnosis as the only pain control method.  Even people who have had difficulty being hypnotized with others can learn the skill to be hypnotized by attending my live hypnosis seminars or by listening to my hypnosis recordings, such as my hypnosis conditioning recording.

Some people are hypnotized in seconds. However, even people who need a little more time to acquire the skill to be hypnotized can do so with patience and practice.

A variety of experiences can be practiced to develop relaxation, imagination, and concentration. While you are hypnotized, your body may seem asleep and you may forget about your body, but your subconscious mind is super alert and superaware of sounds, especially the hypnotist’s voice. Your conscious mind steps aside, while your subconscious mind becomes focused on the hypnotist’s voice.  You are less critical, less analytical and more accepting of positive instructions resulting in greater self-control, as well as greater control over your own physical body.

Hypnosis in Stress Management

Hundreds of different events outside our body cause stress, but their effect on us largely depends upon how we interpret those events by our thinking.  75-90% of all physician visits are either caused by stress or made worse by stress. Chronic neglected stress can lead to heart attacks, hypertension, stroke, aches and pains in the body, a weakened immune system, psychiatric disorders and even death. Often overeating, smoking, alcohol and drug addiction are a result of stress. Many people say after being hypnotized: “I have never felt so relaxed”. Hypnosis, meditation, deep breathing and exercise are proven tools to melt away stress.

With hypnotic relaxation, there is usually a decrease in hypertension, blood pressure, respiratory rate, heart rate and muscle tension, plus a great feeling of peace of mind. Hypnotherapy is used throughout the world by physicians, psychologists, and dentists, as well as many other healing professionals to help patients to gain self-control, learn to control their body and to live a better life.

Self-hypnosis.

You can even learn how to hypnotize yourself to give yourself positive instructions to enjoy a more joyous and fulfilling life. Affirmations, visualizations and symbols representing change can be locked into your subconscious mind for maximum health and a more successful, satisfying life. Many athletes and Olympic champions use hypnosis and self-hypnosis to develop “call on demand triggers” for maximum superior performance.

According to WebMD.com, Swiss researchers did a study on using hypnosis to help women who suffer from insomnia.  The report concluded, “After listening to a sleep-promoting audio tape containing hypnotic suggestion, women who are suggestible to hypnosis spent two-thirds less time awake, and about 80 percent more time in deep sleep compared to those who slept without the hypnotic suggestion.”

Symptoms of insomnia may include difficulty falling asleep, waking up in the middle of the night and having trouble going back to sleep, waking up too early and feeling tired when you wake up. However, if you have long term insomnia, you should consult with your doctor to rule out any other causes (such as medication) that may be the cause of your insomnia.

Getting a good night’s sleep is very important for our health.  Students get better grades with good sleep.  Lack of sleep can lead to accidents.  Lack of sleep also makes you look and behave as if you were older.  You will lose weight easier with good sleep habits.

If you have trouble sleeping, make it a rule to avoid business after 6 or 7 pm.  You need to have a quiet down time.  Clear your mind before you fall asleep.  Laugh more.  Our bodies produce healthy chemicals when we laugh, which leads to healthy changes in the body, including more oxygen to the brain, a stronger immune system, endorphins, better sleep, lower blood pressure, less stress hormones, reduced need for medication, being less likely to have a heart attack, heart disease or illnesses, and a happy glow on your face with shining eyes.

Every night before you fall asleep, think about three good things that happened to you that day, and three things for which you are grateful.

Using hypnosis can make it possible for insomnia sufferers to have a normal sleep.  Hypnosis relaxes the body, and that alone can help you to fall asleep.  Hypnosis can be used to eliminate headaches, stress, and anxiety, all of which can prevent you from having a good night’s sleep.

When using a hypnosis recording to fall asleep you may fall asleep before the recording ends, and just drift off into a normal sleep and awaken alert, relaxed, and refreshed. After listening to the recording several times you should fall asleep on your own by simply applying the exercises on the recording, but without the recording.

The University of Miami and the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center have published a breast cancer study showing that the combination of meditation, stress management and cognitive therapy (that includes changing beliefs with hypnosis) can lower the death rate from any disease by 79%…….75% lower the risk of dying from breast cancer and 55% lower the risk of recurrence.

Researchers at the University of Virginia School of Medicine have determined that the brain is directly connected to the immune system by vessels previously thought to not exist. That such vessels could have escaped detection when the lymphatic system has been so thoroughly mapped throughout the body is surprising on it’s own, but the true significance of the discovery lies in the effects it could have on the study and treatment of disease. Germany has the highest percentage of hypnosis dentists throughout Europe,” says Dr Albrecht Schmierer, founder of the German Society of Dental Hypnosis. He says around 20 percent of German dentists already offer hypnosis as an option to overcome fears, for pain control and faster healing.

Hypnosis is one of the most successful ways to kick the smoking habit. Hypnosis is routinely used in the health care industry as a valued tool, by athletes for performance improvement, by successful business professionals, celebrities, and other individuals for relaxation and stress management. A 2007 US study at North Shore Medical Centre in Massachusetts found that hospital patients who smoked were more likely to quit through hypnotherapy than those who tried any other methods.

Hypnosis can even be used to help alleviate the symptoms of gastrointestinal conditions like irritable bowel syndrome. A study of 204 IBS sufferers reported in a 2003 issue of the medical journal Gut found that 58 percent of men and 75 percent of women reported “significant symptom relief” immediately after finishing 12 weeks of hypnosis…people imagine that their intestines are working better, like a fluid, flowing river.

Like flipping a switch within yourself, you can learn to instantly achieve a state of relaxation, reduce excess stress or eliminate a bad habit. With self-hypnosis, you can change your focus from negative thoughts into positive healthy beliefs. Hypnosis helps to change thoughts, feelings, and behavior so you can reach your goals and become your personal best.

Self-hypnosis is a skill that anyone can learn and with some practice become very proficient. Setting aside just a few minutes each day, you can train yourself to enjoy a sense of self-control and learn to program your mind for relaxation, success, health and happiness. A few more thoughts:

Stop the struggle: “I have to stop smoking”; “I have to be hypnotized”; “I have to get rid of this pain.” Such intensity creates worry, stress, and other negative emotions. Do not “try hard”. People try hard to fall asleep, and can’t sleep. They try hard to remember something, but when they stop trying, the memory often comes back. People try hard for a sexual response, and it becomes less likely.

Change the audio and video: Change the words and pictures in your head. Never say anything negative about yourself. If someone says something negative about you, mentally say: “That’s ridiculous, I am (insert positive thoughts)”. Recognize the negative, reject it, reaffirm and reinforce the positive. For example, my stop smoking recordings tell your mind that you are already a nonsmoker, a clean fresh air breather. When you use hypnosis, affirm, visualize in detail, believe and know it works. Have the attitude that change is inevitable, a done deal as you think of your goal as already accomplished.

Example of Food Cravings Killer: Psychologists often utilize a visualization technique, but it is much more powerful if used with hypnosis. “It’s St. Patrick’s Day. I have a craving for a green milkshake as I drive closer to the restaurant. I want it. Stop, wait a minute, milkshake maker’s are known to have very high bad bacteria; the server never washed his hands when he left the bathroom; rat’s were licking the machine at night; the sweet syrup has a drop of nose mucus that fell from the server’s nose into the milkshake. All that sugar is gasoline for cancer and increases the chance of diabetes. The server brings it with his finger in the top of the milkshake.   Poor sanitation, poor hygiene totally turns me off. (The more disgusting the imagery, the better it works). I don’t need it. I’m driving straight home past the restaurant to have a nice banana, orange, sweet apple, papaya or pineapple.”

Your health and happiness: Your health is your most important possession. Look after your health first above all else and you will have the energy to enjoy your own life, plus the energy to help others. True happiness and joy comes from helping others.

Love yourself: There is no perfect person. You will always be beside yourself, so you had best love yourself. When you love yourself, you have more love to give. People want to be around others who love themselves and have love to give. Love yourself and your body. You are a miracle. You are a unique, special person. There is no one just like you and there never will be anyone just like you. You have eyes that see and ears that can hear. You have your own fingerprints; your own signature; your own DNA; your own temperature control system; your own blood system; your own healing system that heals and mends cuts, scrapes, and bruises; a powerful imagination to create … I could go on and on. You really are fantastic. You are amazing!

Believe in yourself: If you do not, no one else will. We all have our own special talents and gifts. You become what you think the most about. Pay attention to your mind, your mouth, your thoughts and your words.

Be a hypnotist in your daily life: Motivate, encourage, praise and inspire others with your positive thoughts, words and actions. Do your best so that people leave you feeling better. People will remember you more by how you make them feel than by what you say or do. People want to be with people who make them feel good, feel well, feel happy.

Someone leaves you: Why would you ever want to be with someone who does not want to be with you. There are thousands of people who want to be with you. Choose someone with similar values, similar interests and whose actions match their words. Sometimes people leave due to mental illness. 20% of the world suffers mental illness sometime in their life. A 70 year old man was left by his wife. He joined a gym, and is now is a body builder who looks better than superman.

Someone dies: Many people tell me that they went back to smoking or some other temporary stress reliever. The person who dies doesn’t want you to start smoking, drinking or whatever. Doing that will give you a second problem, and you will be upset with yourself. Instead, be thankful and cherish the moments you had with that person. Think upon all the wonderful experiences you enjoyed with that person. However, keep in mind that we are all like leaves on the trees, here for a short while and then we are replaced. This is another reason to enjoy every moment of the present with awareness and gratitude. Short term sadness is normal, long term sadness needs professional medical or psychological help. Use safe, natural stress relief techniques such as hypnosis, meditation, deep breathing, exercise, a vacation.

Forgive yourself and forgive others: Do not hold a red hot coal in your hand waiting to throw it at someone while it burns you. Live in the present. The past is long past being past, best left in the dusty old past like a child’s tricycle, old hair styles and old styles of clothing. Live in the now, the present; get your life back; get your energy back; get your power back and get your spirit back. You are no longer a victim and you are really alive when you live in the present.  There is no need for a “pity party” to waste your time complaining over coffee with your friends.  Take responsibility and move on to your future.  You have the freedom to make new choices. Dalai Lama was once asked: “When have you been most happy?” He said: “Right now.” You have free choice to choose to live in the present. Take responsibility and walk victoriously with your head held high. As you sit or stand in that spot, ask yourself several times: Where is (insert your first name) going now…

I believe I can hypnotize almost anyone, if they want to be hypnotized, and if they pay attention to my instructions. The instructions are so simple that a child can follow them. Some people can be hypnotized in seconds, while others need to be trained in the skill, or conditioned for hypnosis. The first step is to eliminate any irrational fears or misconceptions so the client feels comfortable with hypnosis. The second step is to help the client to trust the hypnotist as someone who is there to help them in one way or another to have a better life, to find a lost object that has been misplaced, to reduce pain, to be more successful in sports, or a thousand other applications.

The client has to understand that he or she gains control and does not lose control with hypnosis, to understand that no one stays in hypnosis, or “gets stuck” in hypnosis, and that they will not be revealing personal information.

So, can a hypnotist quickly identify people who have a natural talent to be hypnotized easily and rapidly, or those who have been previously hypnotized. In many cases, the answer is yes. The ability to be hypnotized fast requires people who want to be hypnotized and who have a desire and ability to follow simple instructions; who are able to focus and pay attention to something such as a flickering candle flame, a hypnotic spiral, a swinging watch, or simply the hypnotist’s voice.

Some hypnotists claim that East Indians; Iranian women; Asians (more so than Europeans) are easier to hypnotize. I always found that French people in Canada were easier to hypnotize than others. When I presented entertainment hypnosis in the 1960’s and 1970’s, I noticed French people were more emotional, more enthusiastic, and more involved in the hypnosis and the show. Audience members would sit on the edge of their seats, fascinated with the mystery and humor in the show. Country people seemed less cynical and less analytical than city people, and often more relaxed as well.

Sometimes a hypnotist will place his hands on a client’s shoulders and move him back and forth, to determine the degree of relaxation. The hypnotist may shake the client’s hand to find out if the hand is warm, and if the arm is loose and relaxed. Facial muscles will often show greater relaxation as the person is going into hypnosis.

People interested in spiritual and New Age areas such as yoga, meditation, massage, Reiki, psychic phenomena, past life regression, are employed in monotonous work, daydream frequently, are creative with a good imagination such as musicians, artists and writers usually have a natural ability for hypnosis.

Some hypnotists claim that the military are more easily hypnotized because they are used to following instructions. People who have used chemically altering drugs in the past tend to be responsive due to their experience with altered mental states. Some alcohol relaxes to speed up hypnosis, but too much prevents paying attention to following instructions. When I was about 13, I had trouble hypnotizing a school friend. After he had one beer, he became hypnotized very rapidly.

If someone has been hypnotized before, they are more likely to be hypnotized easily and quickly again. If someone shows large pupils, it may indicate that they like you, are interested in the activity and thus able to focus attention very well. When a horrific accident or incident is described, does the person’s imagination kick in causing their face to grimace? Do they become emotionally involved in a movie in a theatre or duck when they see a knife thrown on the movie screen, or do they shed some tears in a sad scene? This shows a vivid imagination, which is helpful to be hypnotized in order to utilize hypnosis for the person’s benefit. People who are eager to be hypnotized are more suited to hypnosis than people who do not wish to be hypnotized.

People who sit close to a hypnotist in an audience, especially the front row, smile, are engaged with the speaker, laugh with the speaker, vocalize, (they are not bored); have a pen in their mouth; or nod after hearing “a lot of people love being hypnotized, it feels so good, they want to do it again and again” are showing strong receptivity for hypnosis. The more signals shown with such positive responses, the easier and faster they will go into hypnosis.

On the other hand, for people whose attention is easily diverted away from the voice of the hypnotist, who do not focus on what the hypnotist is doing, who may sit with arms crossed (may be disagreeing with the idea of hypnosis), they are likely to take more time, or need a specialized method to be hypnotized. For people who find too many “monkeys in their mind with constant mind wandering”, a faster confusion rapid hypnosis method would likely prove more suitable. A client may be told to take a long, slow, deep breath, yet he may take a short, fast, shallow breath. The client may have to learn to pay attention and to follow instructions.

In summary, people are generally very easy to hypnotize if the misconceptions are gone, there is a feeling of trust, they follow simple instructions, are willing to focus attention, willing to learn relax and melt away tensions, and willing to learn how to effectively use their imagination, they will be hypnotized easily, rapidly and deeply. As a result, whatever the client wants to accomplish, he will do it better with maximum success.

Most people now-a-days are stressed out with work, children, family obligations, always being contacted by emails, phone calls, text messages, and an unlimited number of requests from others or ourselves to be busy.  A recent study from China of 138,000 people reported that people with high stress jobs had a 22% greater risk of stroke over those with low stress positions, but that increased to 33% for women.  Anger or stress release more adrenalin and increase the possibility of a heart attack.

Hypnosis can be your greatest tool for mind programming to manage stress.  By just hypnotizing people, the great relaxation of hypnosis alone frequently erases headaches, physical pain, unhealthy habits, energizes, and people come out of hypnosis feeling like they have just come out of a long, deep relaxing sleep.  Many physical complaints and emotional problems may automatically disappear after someone has been deeply hypnotized.

After hypnosis, people often say: “I have never felt so relaxed in my life before”.  Dr. Jennifer Majersik, head of vascular neurology at the University Of Utah School Of Medicine, says “High stress jobs might lead to activation of an unhealthy physiologic stress – response system, including increased stress hormones.”  This can easily lead to increased physical illness.  An incredible number of physical and psychologial problems are caused by stress.

70 to 90% of people in a physician’s office are there because stress has totally or partially caused the complaint.  Animals put under extreme high stress have a high probability of developing cancer due to a weakened immune system.  Similarly, humans often develop cancer 6 to 18 months after major multiple stressors.

The most common problems seen by a hypnotist are smoking, overweight and stress.  Hypnosis is a powerful tool to help with these and a thousand other problems.  Everyone should set a daily appointment on their personal calendar, just like a doctor’s appointment, for stress management.  I cannot overestimate the importance of controlling stress to regain self control in your life.  Here are 35 ways to help you to manage stress.  Practice one or more of them every day.  You will be healthier, more joyful and more successful.  You will be happier, the greatest determinant of a good life.

  • Play my stress control seminar recordings, and read my book “The Wellness Journey”.
  • Use deep breathing exercises.
  • Make an appointment for deep muscle massage.
  • Tense up all parts of your body one at a time and let go and relax.
  • Exercise with a brisk walk, hike, swim, bicycle, go to a gym or buy or rent your own equipment.
  • Use self hypnosis. Lie down and relax your body step by step. Remember a peaceful place in detail, using all your senses. Really be there in your imagination.
  • Meditate: sit quietly, eyes closed. Slowly focus over and over on one word such as “calm”, or “peace”, or “relax”.
  • Talk to a friend, counsellor, minister, or physician. Follow your physician’s advice!
  • Change your diet: less salt, less sugar, less alcohol, less fat, less meat, less coffee; more fluids, fruits,     vegetables, whole grain cereals, and fish. Enjoy a balanced meal plan for proper nutrition.
  • Listen to relaxing nature sound recordings, New Age or Classical music which induces slower, deeper breathing.
  • Drive to a peaceful park, forest, beach, mountain or meadow.
  • Take the day off or go on vacation.
  • Phone your local hospital to find out when the next stress reduction class will be held.
  • Start a new hobby such as painting, ceramics, sailing, tennis, yoga, etc.
  • Be assertive, not aggressive. Take a self assertion course at a school or university.
  • Have a warm bath at 92 degrees F. with pleasant bath oil.
  • Drink chamomile tea.
  • See a foot reflexologist for better circulation.
  • Listen to a comedy recording; watch a live comedy show or video. Some of the best lessons are learned in the Bible: “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones”. Do not live in the past, or you are a victim. Forgive others and yourself, and move on in life. As the song says: “Enjoy yourself, it’s later than you think”.
  • Stretch.
  • Volunteer to help others for diversion; new activities; new friends. What will you have given during your lifetime?
  • Change your daily routine, dress, route to work, furniture arrangement, etc.
  • Set up a regular time to relax, a “relaxation break” instead of a coffee break.
  • Change your attitude. Why does the same event bother some people, but not others? You don’t always have to be right. You have a choice.
  • Avoid over scheduling yourself for too many tasks.
  • Avoid “keeping up with the Joneses”.  Sam Walton owned Wal-Mart, and drove a rusty old truck. Live a simple life. No need to impress yourself or others.
  • Make a daily “to do” list to tackle items in order of priority.
  • Don’t spend $100 worth of energy for a 10 cent problem.
  • Break down a major task into several small tasks.
  • Delegate work to others.
  • Set realistic goals.
  • Give compliments and enjoy taking compliments.
  • Never say, “I can’t do this or that”. You get what you think about.
  • Make a list of tension reducers and things to do “to get outside of yourself”.
  • Make your personal and family life a priority over other demands.
  • Balance work with play, proper diet, sleep, exercise and relaxation.
  • Be thankful for your comfortable bed, friends, food, water, a chance to work, freedom, and many other blessings!
  • Above all, when you look in the mirror, say “I love myself. I am a good person.” You had best love yourself because you will be beside yourself the rest of your life. Others want to be with you if you love yourself.  You have more love to give to others when you love yourself.  Look after your health first so you have the energy to help others.  Great happiness and joy comes from helping others to fulfillment.

Understand how your mind works

If you attend any of my live seminars or use any of my hypnosis recordings, you should pat yourself on the back for loving yourself enough to look after your own health and well being. When I ask an audience of hundreds of people “Do you know anyone who has successfully lost weight or stopped smoking using my hypnosis seminars or recordings?” up to 80% of the hands go up in the air.

When people use hypnosis, they often do not know they were hypnotized. Being hypnotized is simply having a powerful focus upon the voice of the hypnotist, accepting uncritically everything the hypnotist says is true, and turning off your critical conscious thinking brain. I guide people into hypnosis with methods so easy to follow that a child can learn to do this. You do not have to know you are hypnotized, or to even to believe it will work. People are often surprised at their positive results.

People often use the nicotine patch to stop smoking, but searching the internet shows that the patch only has a 7-12% success rate. There’s no need to be disappointed if it did not work for you, for nicotine patches do not help most people. At least you gave it a try and I applaud people who do not give up. Persistence will help you to find success in whatever you want to accomplish.

Mark Twain said “It is easy to stop smoking for I have done it 1000 times.” People go back to smoking because of stress, drinking, or cockiness (“I’ll just have one”). I help people to gain control over their hands and their life with hypnosis.

Stress is the most common reason that people go back to smoking. They will say someone left me, or someone died, “and now I have 2 problems instead of one, for I am back smoking.” A large number of people in my audience will say that someone left them (wife, husband, boyfriend, girl friend) sometime in their life, and that created enough stress to go back to smoking. There are many other healthy ways to handle stress. So, why would you want to be with someone who does not want to be with you? When someone close to us dies, a short period of grief is normal. One has to be thankful for the time together, and cherish those memories, but move on with the present, and life.

When events in our lives go the wrong way, we have to stop living in the past, and live in the present to get back our life, our power, our energy, and our spirit. When you live in the present, you are truly alive. If you are always living in the past, you are not alive. “The past is long past being past, best left in the dusty old past. When unfortunate events happen, we have to say “My name is (fill in the blank), where am I going now?”

Going to sleep at night, have you ever told yourself to wake up at a certain time in the morning, and you did? That is a form of self-hypnosis. Your self-suggestion went into your subconscious mind as you fell asleep. The conscious mind sleeps at night. The subconscious mind never sleeps. That’s why mothers wake up when the children cry. Dreams can seem so real that people can believe and feel like they are flying, in danger, or getting something they always wanted. The imagination is powerful. This is why hypnosis works.

The inner mind cannot tell the difference between reality and fantasy. So, hypnosis helps to convince people to BELIEVE that they are already non smokers, a slim person with new eating habits, a person who enjoys long nails and would never even think of biting them, or a person who is calm, relaxed, and happy, with peace of mind in all situations. You get the idea.

We have two minds. That’s why when you are asleep, you pull the covers up when you are cold or down when you are hot, or change position when you are uncomfortable, without having to wake up. Hypnosis helps you to communicate to your subconscious mind to change your beliefs, to instill confidence, to build love for yourself, and to achieve your maximum personal best.

If you cry tears from sadness, or cry tears from joy and happiness, sad tears and happy tears have different chemicals. Your brain and body produce thousands of different chemicals, according to your thinking, positive or negative, healthy or unhealthy thoughts. Your thoughts influence the chemical production, whether they are healthy or toxic chemicals. Those chemicals influence your feelings. Your feelings affect your actions, and your behavior. More different chemicals are produced in your brain and body than are on the shelves of the largest pharmacy in the world. The mind influences the body and the body influences the mind.

When you are hypnotized, your body may feel like it is asleep. You may hear sounds around you, but the hypnotist will tell you: “Every sound around you helps you to melt deeper into relaxation, and helps you to focus even more powerfully upon my voice.” When you are hypnotized, your mind is super alert, super aware, and uncritically enjoying a mental ride with the hypnotist. The hypnotist drives, and you lay back and enjoy the story as his voice persuades you to feel and do things that help you to be healthy, successful and happy.

When you are hypnotized, your mind is not a blank. You are not asleep. Hypnosis is not a truth serum. Everyone comes out of hypnosis. Medical hypnosis is so powerful that heart operations have taken place with no anesthetic, only hypnotism. In Ireland, Dr. Jack Gibson performed over 4000 minor and major operations with hypnotism as the only anesthetic.

Physicians, psychologists, dentists, and other professionals throughout the world use hypnosis to help others to improve their life. I have even had people at live seminars tell me that while they were hypnotized by me, they gave themselves their own suggestions for dropping cocaine, weight loss, nail biting and more, and they were successful.

In the 1940’s, doctors recommended smoking to relieve stress. In the 1950’s, doctors used hypnosis with patients secretly, for fear of losing their medical license. In the 1960’s, when I was an undergraduate student, I was told by a psychology professor that I would never be allowed into graduate school if I practiced hypnosis. Today, thousands of psychologists practice hypnosis, and a few often do their best to change laws to restrict the practice to their own profession, to eliminate any competition.

I was one of the first hypnotists in the world to create a stop smoking with hypnosis cassette recording. I was told in the 1960’s by psychologists that no one can be helped with recordings, that a face to face meeting with a psychologist is needed. Today, there are thousands of self-help recordings distributed by psychologists, doctors and psychiatrists. Everything in the world is always changing. Hypnosis, with a live seminar or recordings, can help you to gain control of your subconscious mind to change your life.

Being able to go into hypnosis is a skill. The more you use this skill, the better your ability becomes, and the greater the results you achieve. Practice makes perfect. Hypnosis is a great meditation technique as well. You can focus on your breathing and go to a special peaceful place in your mind, real or imaginary, detailing what you see, hear, feel, smell and taste.

Top resolutions by people include a desire to lose weight, stop smoking, exercise more, improve health and looks, improve relationships, and to make or save more money.  Here are 10 helpful instructions to reach any goal:

  1. Create a written plan with a specific, measureable, realistic goal. If more exercise is the goal, be gradual in increasing intensity and duration of exercise. Being over ambitious leads to disappointment, or even injury. Make the goal simple, such as resolving to lose 10 pounds (just ‘lose weight’ is too vague); to eliminate soft drinks, candy and chocolate; to walk Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Have your deodorant only available at the gym? To control spending, cut up credit cards and have monthly automated savings? Improve a relationship by setting aside specific times to be with a loved one?
  2. Be accountable by making a verbal commitment to a few people.
  3. Enlist support from a family member, friend, mentor, professional, a class, a good book or self-help recording.
  4. Be positive, and think “I know I can do this.” Have an intense focused mind set on what you should do, not what you should not do. For example, instead of thinking of not smoking, focus on deep breathing, or drinking more water.
  5. Consider setbacks as learning experiences and do better next time.
  6. Talk to people who have done what you want to do and model them.
  7. Realize you have a choice, and going in the right direction reinforces your will power.
  8. Reward yourself for small steps to success with perhaps a movie, a small gift, a new outfit, a visit to a friend, etc.
  9. Several times a day, read a card with motivational reasons and benefits to stick to your plan: Have one on your mirror, and carry one in your wallet to read when waiting somewhere. Reading this just before you fall asleep strongly influences your subconscious mind.
  10. Keep a Daily Progress Journal to evaluate and improve your plan for success. People wanting to lose weight often say “I blew my program” when they did well on 20 meals out of 21 during the week. That’s over 95% success!

Many success coaches instruct others to start with easier goals to feel a sense of accomplishment. This gives confidence to achieve bigger goals. Sometimes it is best to focus all your mental energy on one major goal at a time, focusing on small steps. One brick at a time creates a building.  Patience and calm persistence leads to success. Plan how you will deal with any obstacles that may arise.

The key to my motivating methods is the use of hypnosis with people to intensely focus their mental powers on what they want; to boost their belief in themselves; to increase their self-love so they are totally dedicated to success; to instill positive self-talk, and to program mental success images into their subconscious mind so they imagine and feel that they have already succeeded.

Tips on How to Control Your Weight

  • There are only two ways to lose weight: fewer calories / more exercise.
  • Begin your day with exercise before breakfast and burn up the most calories with the least effort.
  • Eat a hearty breakfast of varied foods.  It will give you energy for the day and you can burn it off throughout the day.
  • Eat from a varied selection of food at lunch and dinner and feel full with less food.
  • Regularly review a card with your personal reasons to be trim, slim.
  • Drink 8 to 10 glasses of water daily, unless you have a medical problem preventing this as part of your program.
  • Review this program frequently for new ideas and reinforcement.
  • Be very careful what you think about.  You will probably get it.
  • Learn what foods are high, medium and low calorie.  Eat mostly low and medium calorie foods.  For a balanced nutritious food management program, include variety, especially fruits and vegetables.
  • There are 3,500 calories to the pound. Examples: 1 donut daily for a year adds 16 pounds of fat; a small  piece of apple pie with no ice-cream daily for a year adds 43 pounds of fat. Little things do count. Develop a dislike for greasy, oily, fatty and sweet foods.
  • Be careful how you cook foods, avoiding grease, high calorie oils.
  • Taste a little and know what the rest tastes like.
  • Enjoy the natural taste of potatoes, bread, vegetables, salads, etc. without butter, gravy, sour cream, salad dressings, oils, etc.  You will get used to the new taste.
  • Decide ahead! “I’ll be more relaxed; full with less; in control.”
  • “Your life is a direct mirror of the thoughts and experiences stored in your subconscious.  Be careful. Control the door to your subconscious and conscious mind.”
  • Dissolve false and phantom mental barriers to weight loss.
  • Be ready for positive ripples – changes in your eating habits will bring positive changes to many other areas in your life.
  • Hunger may be interpreted as a good sign, the fat saying “good-bye”.
  • Hunger may only be thirst, drink water first.
  • If you lose only 1 pound a week, that’s over 50 pounds in a year.  Be patient.
  • To control the urge to eat, have carrots, cauliflower, celery, etc. cut in fridge and ready to eat; do deep breathing, and moderate exercises such as walking, swimming, etc.
  • Alcohol has no nutritive value, but high calorie content.
  • Nobody forces food into your mouth. You have control.
  • Think thin, trim, slim, lean, fit, firm, slender, shapely, great body.
  • Omit adding sugar, salt, butter, syrup, jam, sour cream, gravy, salad dressings, chocolate bars, potato chips, french fries, chicken skins, soft drinks. If you taste a little, know what the rest tastes like and stop right there. If you have children, teach them good eating habits. You want them to have easy access to jobs, dates, clothes, good health.
  • Leave some food on the plate and lose weight. Occasional miseating is OK.
  • It is a sign of self-respect to treat your body and your mind well.
  • Eat to live. Do not live to eat. Develop other interests – no need to fight it.
  • Willpower strengthens with use. Set your weight goal. Be victorious!  Hypnosis changes attitudes!

Imagine the fading of reality around you and your absorption in the voice of the hypnotist. That is called hetero-hypnosis. Take away the hypnotist; fade away the reality again while you are absorbed in your own pre-planned positive thoughts. That is self-hypnosis.

Beginners experiencing hetero-hypnosis or self-hypnosis often worry that they are not hypnotized, or that the suggestions (instructions) for health, happiness, success, or self-control will not work. This self-doubt eats up mind power energy, the ability to focus and concentrate on the positive life change instructions.

As the person stops questioning their level of success, feels more comfortable and confident in their hypnotic ability to enter trance easily and quickly, their concentrated absorption becomes stronger. The general reality around them fades and the trance depth increases with the possibility of more dramatic results.

The goal is not just relaxation or meditation, but a powerful ability to hold attention steady, to concentrate confidently and effortlessly. Depth of trance and absorption improve with the use of the imagination, what you imagine seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling and tasting-using many senses with your imagination. Some people may imagine a hypnotist speaking to them. To reduce thinking in the trance, and thereby increase the power of the motivational instructions, it is best to go into self-hypnosis with a clear idea of what you want to suggest to yourself by writing a list of self-suggestions, before hypnosis. You want to basically turn off your thinking mind in hypnosis. While self-hypnotized, some people simply focus on just one image, word, or phrase that reminds them of all the intended self-suggestions.

Some people start self-hypnosis by gazing at one spot, above eye level, letting their eyes begin to feel heavy, tired, and then allow the eyes to close as they “go inside themselves”, relaxing deeper with each breath, melting down with each descending floor of an imaginary escalator or elevator, etc.

The more someone struggles to achieve or control self-hypnosis, the less the success that is experienced. With practice, you can create a trigger thought, word, phrase, or action that rapidly returns you to the self-hypnotic trance, at will. It is a pleasant and enjoyable feeling like a big daydream, and you can come out whenever you decide to do so.

Before you begin self-hypnosis, you need to have a clear idea of what you want to accomplish by having a closer connection to your subconscious mind. As you feel deeply absorbed in your inner experience, depth of trance may vary over time in the same session. A daily practice of self-hypnosis increases your ability, depth and success with the technique. Self-hypnosis begins to feel more normal, more natural, deeper and more focused.

Often the fastest way to learn self-hypnosis is to be hypnotized by a hypnotist or recordings, and then be given instructions that you can re-hypnotize yourself anywhere, anytime at will.

Hetero-hypnosis and self-hypnosis are similar to relaxation techniques and are also associated with lowered blood pressure, respiratory rate, and heart rate. There is a shift to an “internal world” inside yourself. Hetero-hypnosis is often called guided self-hypnosis.

During daydreaming, eyes become fixed, go out of focus, or shift to the left. The experienced daydreamer learns to control their thought stream, intensify their personal imagery and to take pleasure with the process.

Again, doubts or anxiety about being successful with the state must be eliminated. Trusting yourself, your abilities, and believing you are doing well goes a long way here. After giving your subconscious the instructions to reach your goals, it is best to let it go, thus totally trusting your unconscious mind to do whatever needs to be done. Any doubts here will interfere with success. As Dr. Milton Erickson described it: “OK, unconscious, do your stuff.”

Like being guided to ride a bicycle, and then you ride on your own, hetero-hypnosis is often the best way to learn self-hypnosis, then you can later do it on your own without a hypnotist or recording. As greater trance depth in self-hypnosis is achieved, you have to keep yourself from drifting off to sleep, unless that is what you desire.

You can even imagine that a balloon is pulling your right arm up, floating in the air, then the strings are cut, and your arm drops to your lap, touches your leg, and you go deeper into trance. As you do that, consider the color of the balloons, many balloons, reflections of light on the balloons, drifting, floating, lifting, rising. To make the experience more real, also focus on the smell of the balloons, the large size of the balloons, and the feeling of the strings on your wrist. Forget about your arm, let it have a mind of its own, but focus on imagining the balloon pulling your wrist higher and higher. The floating and falling of your arm can be outward, visual proof that you have entered hypnosis.

Self-hypnosis can be used in emergencies such as an accident, or everyday experiences such as before a meal to reduce calories. For example, in self-hypnosis, you can give yourself instructions (using many senses) that your favourite soft drink has 15 teaspoons of sugar in the bottom of the bottle, along with the visualization of spiders, cockroaches and rat droppings. Strong visual images, especially if repeated, can work remarkably well. With experience, a self-instruction like this can be completed in seconds.

In fact, self-hypnosis should be taught to anyone losing weight and every student in school, even children. Psychological research shows children have used self-hypnosis to treat anxiety, asthma, body cast immobilization, burns, enuresis, hair pulling, insomnia, learning difficulties, nausea, pain, poor self-esteem, stuttering, tension and increased self-control. Like any skill, proper instruction and practice result in the mastering of self-hypnosis. Realize that you are responsible for your own practice and praise yourself for your successes. Adults can share the experience together with children as a relaxation, stress management tool.

All you need to do to bring yourself out of self-hypnosis is to count silently to yourself from 1 to 5. Tell yourself that at 5, you will be wide awake, fully alert, feeling great. Again, the highest level of skill with self-hypnosis will come from starting your training with a live hypnotist or self-hypnosis training recordings. With practice, you will soon be able to do self-hypnosis without any external aid from a hypnotist or recordings. You will also learn how to deepen hypnosis on your own. Then, you can use self-hypnosis alone, anywhere, anytime, whenever needed. A man from Northern BC told me at my seminar that he had found the self-hypnosis he learned from me to be useful when a bear attacked and mauled him.

Whatever you do, you can do it better with self-hypnosis and enjoy a feeling of self-mastery. For example, a change in your feelings, in your beliefs, in your ability to cope with chronic pain can give rise to a dramatic change in self-image and enjoyment of life. Self-hypnosis allows an extension of treatment by a hypnotist. That is, whether weight loss, smoking, stress or something else, the client now has a tool in his own head that he can use whenever needed.

In both hetero-hypnosis and self-hypnosis, people experience a high degree of focused mental absorption on new ideas and beliefs, together with a fading of the external environment. Self-hypnosis, with vivid mental imagery is excellent for all personal growth, enhancement and the development of creative potential. Your confidence in using self-hypnosis will increase with practice.

You will gain control over many aspects of your life hypnotizing yourself and giving yourself positive suggestions in seconds, even with your eyes open. I often do this standing in a grocery store line.

A German philosopher, Arthur Schopenhauer once said: “All truth passes through three stages: first it is ridiculed; next it is violently opposed; third it is accepted as being self-evident.”

When people do not understand something, they often fail to investigate further. In fact, often they fear the unknown so much that they would never dare to investigate further.  Hypnosis is used globally as a tool by thousands of physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, dentists, ministers, counsellors, social workers, etc. because it is a useful tool.  More professionals are using hypnosis every day for faster healing and for overcoming problems in people’s lives, often in areas where nothing else worked.

Heart operations have taken place under hypnosis, with no anesthetic whatsoever. A surgeon in Ireland, Dr. Jack Gibson performed over 4000 major and minor surgeries with hypnosis as the sole anesthetic. Athletes all over the world use hypnosis and self-hypnosis to achieve maximum performance. Whatever you do, you will do it better with hypnosis and/or self-hypnosis. Hypnosis has proven useful with adults and children.  Here are some interesting reports from clients I have helped with hypnosis:

  • A client told me she was addicted to drinking several family size Cokes every single day. I hypnotized her and told her that when she looked at a Coke bottle she would see various disgusting things floating inside the bottle, that she had chosen. It could be cockroaches, worms, spit, hair, urine, feces, rats, snakes, etc. We constructed the hypnotic visual image to include drinking the Coke with this concoction of disgusting things, including the taste, the feel, and the smell for a stronger emotional imagery. We added her imagining drinking this mixture and her feeling nauseous, vomiting, and her friends running away disgusted.  When she returned for a second reinforcement session a week later, she reported no longer drinking any Coke whatsoever.
  • A client came into my office with a note from his psychiatrist which simply said: “Please relax this patient.” After handing me the note, the client leaped into my large, soft, plush armchair and shouted: “Hurry up and relax me.”  By using hypnosis and teaching him to practice progressive stress reduction techniques, he was able to enjoy life more, and the little things of life that used to upset him no longer troubled him.
  • Another client told me that he would feel furious when he was in a traffic jam. He would take his glasses off, hold them in his hand and squeeze them in anger. That angry adrenalin rush was affecting his happiness, and his health. I hypnotized him to be more relaxed by simply thinking the words “calm and relaxed”, and taught him self-hypnosis. This became an instant trigger for him to calm down.
  • I have had clients who led such stressful lives (an accountant at tax deadline time, a taxi driver, and others) that they smoked 4-5 packages of cigarettes a day, yes a day, yet they stopped smoking with hypnosis.
  • Self-hypnosis, hypnotizing yourself in the daytime, or before sleep is a valuable tool. I have taught self-hypnosis to people for use in pain control, sports, and especially overeating, or wherever people needed to reinforce hypnosis for a period of time.

As you go to sleep tonight, think about all the things for which you are grateful.  You’ll have a much better sleep.

How many times have you thought something was impossible, but you did it?  How many times have parents, employers, friends, and even physicians have said you will never do this or that, but they were dead-wrong.  Many times I have heard physicians say “this is going to hurt, you’ll never walk again, there is no cure”, and if the person accepted the belief, that is exactly what would happen. Our beliefs rule our lives, unless we learn to examine and control them.

In one case, a physician came to see his patient after surgery.  The patient was unable to walk, yet the surgery had nothing to do with the ability to walk. When the patient was hypnotized, he was able to recall hearing a conversation between two doctors in the hallway outside his room.  The doctors in the hallway said “he’ll never walk again”, however, they were talking about someone else.  Because the patient had just come out of surgery, his mind was groggy, focused and very suggestible.  The hypnotist removed the negative belief and the patient was again able to walk.  The hypnotist merely said to the hypnotized patient “they were talking about a different patient, you can easily walk”.

As you can understand, the mind is very open to following positive or negative instructions when the mind is concentrated.  Fortunately, hypnosis can change beliefs and these new beliefs can bring health to the body as well as success and happiness.  Of the greatest importance is that negative instructions are not given, and secondly, that the instructions are positive, planned, and powerful whenever the mind is focused and concentrated on the instructions.

You can use hypnosis to change your life with either live sessions with a hypnotist or even hypnosis recordings.  Next time you think something is impossible, challenge your beliefs.  Here are some examples of wrong thinking:

  • 1902: Astronomer Simon Newcomb said “flight by machine heavier than air is unpractical and insignificant, if not utterly impossible”.
  • 1913: The American Road Congress stated “it is an idle dream to imagine that… automobiles will take the place of railways in the long distance movement of … passengers”.
  • 1927: Harry Warner of Warner Brother’s Studios said “who the hell wants to hear actors talk”.
  • 1943: Thomas J. Watson, chairman of IBM said “I think there is a world market for about five computers”.
  • 1977: Ken Olsen, president of Digital Equipment Corporation said “there is no reason for any individual to have a computer in their home.”

Brainwave activity changes with hypnosis. When you are hypnotized, you move from the wide awake brainwave beta state to slower theta waves. You experience changes such as fluttering eyelids, slower, smoother, more regular and deeper breathing. Your body relaxes, and time is distorted as your mind focuses more and more on the voice of the hypnotist, following his instructions. Time passes quickly as you drift, dream, and float with the hypnotic instructions.

Good feelings are felt in hypnosis because the body releases the pleasure chemical, dopamine. When you are hypnotized, instructions given by the hypnotist can change your beliefs. For example, you can be hypnotized to believe you are a nonsmoker; to believe you love exercise, to dislike biting your nails, to believe you have powerful concentration, to block out pain, to be more relaxed in all situations, etc.

Hypnotic instructions given before and after surgery reduce the need for excessive anesthesia and medication. Recovery is faster, and hospital stays are shorter. There is less bleeding, less pain, and the person’s bodily functions all return to normal faster. To a great extent, what we truly believe, we become: healthy or unhealthy, happy or sad, even rich or poor.

Quantum physics suggests that we are the creator of our own realities. Our expectations and intentions, our ability to focus our mind power creates our future.
Every cell in our body has a mind, a consciousness. Hypnosis allows us to influence and change our health, our mood, and what we can achieve by changing our beliefs. A magnifying glass can focus the rays of the sun to start a fire that can destroy a city. Hypnosis helps us to focus our mind power for health, happiness, and success.

You do not even need a hypnotist. You can use a specific hypnosis recording to change your thoughts, feelings and beliefs. The greatest misconception I have heard from people in the last 50 years is the false belief that they need to see a hypnotist in person to be helped. Thousands of people have used my hypnosis recordings in their own home. Virtually anyone using my hypnosis recordings will enjoy a better life.

Two secrets of going into hypnosis are: First, do not care if you know you are hypnotized. Most people don’t know anyway. Assume you are hypnotized, and keep focusing effortlessly on my voice. Don’t care if you are hypnotized because you won’t know anyway. Just go with the flow, and let all the instructions sink into every cell of your brain and body for you to become the way you want to be.

Secondly, really be there with the instructions, as if everything you are told is really true, right now, the moment it is being said. Use all your senses with your imagination: see, hear, feel, smell, taste. Really be there. When I hear hypnotic instructions from a hypnosis recording, I accept it all as true. I do not evaluate, judge, or criticize. I open my mind, trust, and the instructions work FAST. Yes, I use my own hypnosis recordings too, and have done so for over 50 years. The season is changing, and you can too, if that is what you strongly desire. There is an old saying: “A tree unbending will soon break.”

The first step to changing is action with the new knowledge. Knowledge alone is not power. Action is the real power. Another important principle of neurolinguistic programming is “If what you are doing is not working, do something different.” That is, stop banging your head against a wall.

Hot flashes is one of the most common symptoms of menopause. Over two thirds of women in North America experience hot flashes during perimenopause (pre-menopause) and menopause according to WebMD.

The best thing about using hypnosis to cool hot flashes is that this method is natural, easy to use and safe. Other solutions for hot flashes include hormone replacement, antidepressant paroxetine, anti-seizure medication like gabapentin and clonidine, and blood-pressure medication. These may be effective, but they all have noticeable, and even serious side effects and risks such as stroke, dementia and breast cancer. Hypnosis, being a non-drug solution, is safe for all women. Tests show that using hypnosis methods, similar to my recording ‘Cool Those Hot Flashes’ hypnotic session for menopause, reduces hot flashes by up to 47% within three weeks and 61% at six weeks.

Headaches can be caused by stress, anxiety, poor diet, lack of sleep, lack of exercise, medications, food sensitivity, caffeine, overwork, tension, allergies, etc. If you have a lot of headaches, it is important to talk to your doctor to make sure that the headache is not a symptom of something else. Using hypnosis to eliminate a headache has no side effects, and none of the dangers of stomach upset, heart attack, or stroke often associated with pain killers.

Make sure you are taking good care of yourself. Eat right, get plenty of exercise, drink lots of water and get plenty of rest. Stress, anxiety and tension should be avoided, but this is not always possible. You can use hypnosis to help control stress, anxiety and tension. By just being hypnotized, headaches often simply disappear due to the deep relaxation.

Negative thoughts make you more susceptible to headaches and other problems. So, staying positive and happy will certainly help. Be around people who are upbeat and happy. Get out and do things with people. Go for a walk, see a movie, go to the mall or go out for dinner with friends. These will all help you be, and stay, positive.

Never say to yourself, “He gives me a headache”. You could be unwittingly causing a headache by negative self-hypnosis.

There are many hypnosis techniques that can be used to cure a headache. You can close your eyes and put yourself into a light daydream state and imagine the headache is drifting and floating away, getting smaller and smaller, until it is gone.

Here is another technique that I have used to help many people get rid of headaches (and other discomforts). You can try it yourself next time you have a headache. Sit or lie down comfortably. Close your eyes and relax. Take three deep breathes slowly, in and out. With your index finger of one hand actually draw a picture in mid-air of the pain. You want to draw the perimeter, the outside border of the headache. Make the “drawing” as exact as possible. Draw every nook and cranny. The picture should be done very slowly and it should be very large (about 2 ½ feet high). You might have someone watch you to tell you to slow down or to make it bigger. If your headache is not completely gone, repeat the method.

You can imagine you are an actor playing a role. To make it real, imagine what you see, hear, feel, taste and smell. Really immerse yourself into the fantasy as you are guided by Romane’s relaxing voice. The important principle is that the subconscious accepts imaginary experiences as if they are real experiences. That is why a dream can seem like a vivid experience of real life.

Here is how you can vary the visual: Make it color or black and white; vivid or washed out, fading; bright or dark; sharp details or fuzzy; close or far; moving or still; fast or slow; you can be in the image, or watching from afar; see yourself from the right, left, front and back; 3 dimensional or flat; other people larger or smaller. For example, you could imagine foods you should not eat with cockroaches, worms, snakes, etc. Use all your senses to make the fantasy seem as real as possible. Create the image, and then let it mull over in your mind as you focus upon it in a dreamy way. To eliminate habits, you imagine them as far away, tiny, faded. To establish goals, you bring them close, make them large, vivid and clear.

Here is how to vary the auditory: sound from inside or outside; rich, clear or full/nasal or grating; loud or whisper; fast or slow; constant or intermittent; stereo or mono.

Here is how to vary the kinesthetic: tingling; warm relaxed/cold tense; where is it felt in your body; is the sensation moving or still; steady/continuous or waves; starts where; fast/slow.

One way to understand this is to imagine yourself in a rowboat, rowing hard to the middle of a calm lake. Now that you are in the middle of the lake, put the oars down and lie down on your nice soft down filled mattress in the boat. Simply close your eyes, relax, and pay close attention to the sounds around you. There is nothing you have to do. All you have to do is relax and listen to the sounds around you.

When you are being hypnotized, you simply follow the hypnotist’s instructions. The hypnotist will probably ask you to take several deep breaths, to focus on imagining parts of your body relaxing, to imagine yourself melting down, as if all the bones in your body have left you. The hypnotist guides you on this journey with your attention, and your imagination.  You relax more and more and focus your attention more and more on the voice of the hypnotist. You start to forget about everything around you, except the voice of the hypnotist.

You turn off your thinking, and turn off your critical, analyzing mind. You simply enjoy the experience and let yourself to accept, to believe that all the hypnotist’s positive words and affirmations are absolutely true. You begin to change your thoughts, feelings and behavior in the direction you wish … nonsmoking, change in eating habits, more exercise, better sleep, maximum performance in sports, and so on. Whatever you do, you will do it better with hypnosis. You learn to gain control over your mind, body and life.

So, in the beginning you are actively participating with the hypnotist, following his instructions to pay attention to his voice, and to relax deeply. After a while, you no longer have to do anything. You simply let go, go with the flow, enjoy the experience, and follow all his instructions effortlessly. While hypnotized, you can begin to believe in yourself, feel higher self-esteem and more confidence. At last, most anything seems possible.  You can become your best you and achieve your best for health, happiness, and success.
